History
Brecon Golf Club was founded in 1902, when the first meeting to establish golf in the town took place at the Castle Hotel on the 29th September 1902. Members chose land to the west of Newton Farm for the course and laid out the original 9 holes with just greens, tees and closely cropped fairways.

The original course stretched just over 5,000 yards with a par of 78, a challenging test in the early days of hickory-shafted clubs and undeveloped turf. Improvements were made as early as 1909, enhancing a number of holes to refine the layout.

The Course
Over time Brecon Golf Club gained a reputation as one of Wales’ finest traditional 9-hole parkland courses, appreciated for its well-maintained playing surfaces, friendly club atmosphere, and parkland setting at the foot of the Brecon Beacons.

Today the course — originally designed by noted architect James Braid — continues to offer golfers of all abilities a fair but engaging challenge in a beautiful rural setting, maintaining its historic character while being kept in excellent condition year-round.
